Atalanta captain Papu Gomez admits “Milan have strengthened” but “not as much as everyone says”.

The Orobici finished two places above the Rossoneri in fourth last season, and the Argentinian international was asked about the coming season in a Press conference.

“I know it will be a balanced league,” Gomez confirmed.

“The loss of [Leonardo] Bonucci has weakened Juventus’ defence. Milan have strengthened, though in my opinion not as much as everyone says.

“They’ve signed good players, but I don’t see phenomena. Inter have a great Coach [Luciano Spalletti], so the Nerazzurri will do very well.

“Then we don’t know how Roma will do with [Eusebio] Di Francesco, and the many players who left, but I think Napoli will do well because they play really good football and the team has remained the same.”

Atalanta have a tough start to the season, facing Roma and Napoli in the first two weeks of the campaign.

“It will be a very complicated start, I think it would have been better to face opponents like Roma and Napoli further down the road.

“We’re expecting a tough start, but we’re strong at home where we can compete with anyone, pushed by our fans.”
