Genoa are hoping to convince Luis Campos to arrive at Marassi to take on the job as sporting director, after appointing Andriy Shevchenko as the new coach.

Il Corriere dello Sport reports the Grifone are working to secure the big names in Liguria, as the Rossoblu officially announced Shevchenko’s arrival on Sunday.

Official: Shevchenko is the new Genoa coach

Campos has experience from Real Madrid, Monaco and LOSC Lille, and has found talents like Kylian Mbappé, Bernardo Silva and Anthony Martial.

The new owners 777 Partners are showing their ambitions for the Rossoblu, who have struggled at the start of the new championship.

Shevchenko has been given a deal until June 2024 and now the club is working to appoint a new sporting director.

The newspaper claims the former Real Madrid director sits at the top of the wish list, but it’s not sure if the Grifone will be able to convince the 57-year-old director.

Campos is currently without a job after leaving Lille in December, 2020, where he spent three years.

  1. This guy is absolutely top tier for sporting directors WORLDWIDE. What he has managed to do at Monaco and Lille is nothing short of incredible. Anthony Martial, Fabinho, Bernardo Silva, Thomas Lemar, Benjamin Mendy (the less said about him the better, but there is a reason Man City bought him) at Monaco. Raphael Leao, Nicolas Pepe, Gabriel Magalhaes and Victor Osimhen at Lille all bought for cheap and sold for extraordinary sums. Even in the current Lille side with Botman, Soumare and reviving Renato Sanches career.
I am surprised he is a free agent and that a ‘bigger’ team like Juve haven’t gone for him, seeing as Juve need a rebuild and this guy clearly has an eye for talent and buys players to fit the managers playstyle.
Would be an incredible coup for Genoa.
