Genoa have revealed that they showed an interest in Coach Luis Enrique before he opted to join Roma in the summer.

“Luis Enrique was suggested to us, but we couldn’t reach an agreement with him,” sporting director Stefano Capozucca told Forza Roma.

“I consider him to be a valid Coach and Roma made an excellent choice.

“Despite the initial difficulties, which were to be expected, Roma will return to the higher echelons of the League.”

The Spaniard replaced Vincenzo Montella at the Olimpico after he signed a two-year contract in the Italian capital.

Enrique’s previous coaching experience was with the Barcelona B team.

The Giallorossi have struggled for consistency this term, but they returned to winning ways with a 1-0 win over Palermo.

Roma are currently sixth in the standings.
