Gian Piero Gasperini hopes to end his Inter hoodoo at San Siro and get Atalanta into at least the Europa League. ‘We have always been in the company of the big clubs.’

It kicks off at San Siro at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

In his seven years at the helm of La Dea, the only big club Gasperini has not been able to beat away from home in Serie A is Inter.

“It is a difficult match, we must always see what happens on the field. At times goals or penalties were missed, for example,” Gasperini told Sky Sport Italia.

“Inter have a huge squad, quality and enthusiasm that has taken them to win the Coppa Italia and reach the Champions League Final.”

The Nerazzurri need only a point to be sure of the top four finish in Serie A, whereas Atalanta have already guaranteed their place in the Conference League and are aiming to build on that, especially after Roma’s 2-1 defeat to Fiorentina.

“I say it is fantastic to be in Week 37 and still playing with the theoretical option of getting the Champions League place, although Europa League is more realistic and we have already secured the Conference League spot,” added Gasp.

“It has been a very difficult and balanced campaign, different to previous years, because the teams behind closed up a lot. To our credit, we have always been in the company of the big clubs and that is satisfying.”

Atalanta have qualified for European competition in six of the seven seasons with Gasperini in charge, missing out only in the current campaign.

During that spell, they were also able to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.
