However, the Super League was the big talking point during his press conference.

“At the beginning, I was shocked by the news. I admire Klopp, Guardiola, Chelsea fans and De Zerbi for what they did,” Gasperini said.

The Sassuolo tactician admitted he would prefer not to play against Milan as they were one of the clubs involved in the Super League.

“There have been so many strong reactions, but that being said, we play tomorrow and we must be focused on the game,” Gasperini insisted.

“Luckily, there is also played football. Tomorrow’s game is important for us, and we must prove we deserve our results. On Monday, we had the feeling it was useless to continue playing. We asked ourselves if the league would finish.

“I’ve never heard so many things about meritocracy in football until two days ago. I hope that once everything is over, performances like those of Atalanta won’t be rare in football,” the coach continued.

“It will be challenging to face Roma as Bologna and Sassuolo. The season is still full of traps.

“The game is vital for Roma as well, even if they are a bit far from the top-four. Also, they are still involved in the Europa League and we want them to go all the way. I hope they can win the Europa League so Italian clubs can have one more club in the Champions League.

“The top four race is tight, one game is enough to change how the table looks like. Many games are remaining until the end of the season, it’s a bit like we are playing knock-out fixtures.

“Nobody has given up yet, and the next games will be exciting. We must think about ourselves and don’t hope other clubs will drop points.”
