The Orobici are playing without Champions League commitments and it shows, as this was their second consecutive 5-0 victory after the same result against Milan going into the Christmas break.

“There is this wonderful chemistry with the fans, who are fantastic, and the players feel that, they feel the confidence to take risks and do even more,” Gasp told Sky Sport Italia.

“We are playing good football right now, and of course we have to treat everything with the right level of humility, but it’s also undeniable we believe in ourselves and are doing well.

“There is no such thing as perfection and we have a lot of little things that can be improved, but I have to take my hat off to the players today and say they are playing with spirit, making it seem easy.”

Atalanta made a hefty profit last week, selling Dejan Kulusevski to Juventus for €35m plus up to €9m in add-ons, although he will remain on loan at Parma until the end of the season.

“The fact remains, Atalanta do well because we have players who are very talented and could play in any team,” continued Gasperini.

“People talked about Kulusevski and why he was on loan, but the fact is, it’s not easy to get playing time with Atalanta. These are not players you can just push out of the starting XI.

“The club made its choices and I think it did very well, as we can then reinvest. Just look at Papu Gomez, he can do anything you ask him to. He’d even be a good full-back.”
