The Sardinians suffered a third consecutive defeat, and although they had held out for the first half, crumbled 4-0 after the break in Turin to a Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick and Gonzalo Higuain strike.

“We had actually started the second half better than the first, but against sides like this, you can’t get a single thing wrong,” said the coach in his press conference.

“Juve pressed us high up the field, where we tend to build play from the back, and unfortunately the opening goal changed the balance of the game.

“When you come to Turin, you have to do it all perfectly and we know full well that we could’ve done better in our possession today. We were solid up until the goal and hadn’t allowed Juve any real chances.

“A positive is the debut of Sebastian Walukiewicz, because it wasn’t easy for him to play here against Juve in his first Serie A game, but he showed that he was ready.

“This defeat has to affect us in a positive way, give us back that fire, the determination to turn it around. There are moments in a season where luck is more on your side than others, but apart from our capitulation at Udinese, we always played well and tried to win.”
