Gandini recently ended over 20 years of service to Milan in order to become Roma’s new CEO, and he explained to Corriere della Sera the reasons behind his move south.

“I never thought about working for another Italian club,” he began.

“Instead came this opportunity that makes me proud because it recognises my professionalism.

“A place for me in the new Milan? I asked myself this, but then the desire to grow led me to this decision.

“Moreover, the change in ownership involves a turnover of directors. We’re at the end of an era so it’s only fair.

“When was I approached by Roma? The idea came up early June. There was a meeting with the President Pallotta, who suggested the possibility to me.

“I’ll have the opportunity of doing something of my own and have leadership responsibilities.

“I think they chose me to give Roma credibility at international level.”
