Milan’s joint-CEO Adriano Galliani has thrown his backing behind Filippo Inzaghi, calling him a ‘great Coach’.

The Rossoneri are struggling in mid-table in Serie A, and it has been widely rumoured that he will be dismissed at the end of the season.

However, speaking at an event to announce a new partnership between the club and car manufacturer Audi, Galliani gave his backing to SuperPippo.

“Inzaghi is doing well in his second career,” Galliani said of the former striker.

“After the youth team and the Primavera, he’s doing well this year, we’d be in a different position were it not for injuries.

“Few remember that we beat Napoli, and went level with them, as well as playing well against Roma and Real Madrid.

“Unfortunately, in January we were decimated by injuries, that’s not the Coach’s fault. Pippo was a great player, and he’s a great Coach.”

Inzaghi’s side will meet Inter on Sunday evening in the Derby della Madonnina, and Galliani insists that the club is just viewing it as another potential victory.

“The derby is important, but for Milan it’s just another opportunity for three points. We’re confident, and so is President [Silvio] Berlusconi.

“The derby is a great game where [both sets of] fans go to the stadium together, and leave together. It’s a unique thing in the world, and there are never injuries.

“As Milan, we are proud.”

Despite their current situation, the director is insistent that Milan are still one of the world’s biggest clubs.

“Real [Madrid] won five consecutive European Cups and then didn’t win it for 32 years,” Galliani reminded the assembled media.

“The brand, however, was always the top. With Real we are the most successful club in the world, we have 18 international trophies each.

“The teams which have won the most Champions League titles are Milan and Real.”
