The Federico Dimarco controversy continues to rage on after Fiorentina’s 4-3 defeat to Inter, even among former teammates Sebastien Frey, Ivan Zamorano and Marco Materazzi.

Inter were 2-0 up at the Stadio Franchi after 33 minutes when referee Paolo Valeri was called over to the VAR monitor and awarded a penalty for Dimarco’s knee-high tackle on Giacomo Bonaventura.

However, he surprisingly did not give even a yellow card for the dangerous challenge, let alone a red.

Former Fiorentina and Inter goalkeeper Frey was stunned by the decision and took to Instagram to give his views.

“If Inter won, it is because they believed to the end, but… I have always been PRO VAR because I believe it can facilitate and help everyone…

“If it is used like this (or not used), perhaps I need to reconsider my way of thinking (unfortunately).”

Frey’s Instagram post attracted attention from some of his former Inter teammates, who did not see it the same way.

Ivan Zamorano, who continues to go by the nickname Bam Bam, accused Frey of feeling sorry for himself.

“Seba go and cry in church. Forza Inter,” wrote the Chilean along with a string of crying emojis.

Ex-defender Materazzi was, as ever, less diplomatic.

“Seba, don’t talk rubbish!!!”

Former goalkeeper Frey spent most of his career in Italy, joining Inter in 1998, going out on loan to Verona before his transfer to Parma, then wore the Fiorentina jersey from 2005 to 2011.

He saw out his playing days at Genoa and then Bursaspor.
