With Paulo Dybala unlikely to sign a contract extension with Juventus in January, three former Bianconeri stars discuss whether or not the club should stick with the Argentinean striker.

Dybala’s deal at the Allianz Stadium expires in June 2022. He had reportedly reached an agreement to extend his stay at the club until 2026, but the Serie A giants are planning to change the terms of the agreement mainly due to Dybala’s physical issues.

Dybala’s future at Juventus in doubt: could leave as a free agent

According to Il Corriere dello Sport and La Gazzetta dello Sport, Dybala won’t sign a contract extension in January.

Even if he is unlikely to leave Turin as a free agent, he could still talk to other clubs from January when he will be eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with any other team without Juventus’ consent.

Fans and pundits are discussing the future of La Joya in Turin and La Gazzetta dello Sport asked Antonio Cabrini, Aldo Serena and Angelo Di Livio, three former Juventus players, what they make of Dybala’s future at the club.

Cabrini

“Dybala has nothing to prove, he is at the peak of his career. However, when it comes to extending his contract, other factors must be taken into account.

“The club must consider the times we are living, the economic impact and the programs for the future. These are choices that only those who have a clear view of the situation can make.”

Serena

“I would understand Juve should they offer him a shorter deal. I am convinced Juventus would go all-in on him if he would show consistency. They’ve always waited for Dybala and he has always been at the core of the project.

“However, Juventus must consider his recent injuries, so it’s fair to be cautious. To me, Dybala was at his peak during the first part of the first Allegri era, when he was playing with Gonzalo Higuain.

“He used to make the difference, now he is not as exciting and he needs a new tactical collocation.”

Di Livio

“Paulo is a top player, but he’s been suffering too many injuries. Still, he must stay at Juventus because Juventus need him.

“He is the No.10, like Alessandro Del Piero or Francesco Totti. If Dybala is fit, he can play the same role as them. It has already happened in the past. You always tie these players down to a new contract.”

  1. Join us in the real world.
Guarantee a minimum amount. Pay as you play for the rest.
Take the lead and revolutionise the game.

  2. Great player when he is fit and on form. Skill and determination. Deadly left foot. But sadly, he is just injured all the time. We cant even say how good he is the champions league because he has been injured 3 years in a row for the knockout stages! Sad, but I cant see how Juve can offer 10 million to him in such a condition

  3. I agree with JUVE WARRIOR He Dybala should stay but in condition of pay as you play , The day is he out injured he shouldn’t be paid to waste his huge amount of wages ,

  4. So if I’m reading this correctly, in Dybala”s contract year where’ he’s guaranteed 8-10M from any club, you lot are suggesting dybala signs the first ever pay as you play contract. Not one in football so believe it’d be precedent setting. This is what dybala should do in his contract year where he’s expected to cash in on what he’s accomplished up to now?? Pay as you play. Kind of like Netflix??? Talk about being cemented in reality wow. 😂🤦🏻‍♂️

  5. He hasnt re-signed already because he thinks he’s the best player in the team and wants paid as such. Wages are out of control and UEFA and FIFA do nothing. Nobody expects him to accept a heavily performance based contract and only agents and players could have a problem with such a proposition. As has been said, the rest of us live in the real world.
So lets applaud Juventus for showing a bit of common sense and if he does leave then only Dybala groupies would shed a tear.

  6. Dybala’s circle still thinks he is still coming off his brace vs Barcelona and he has untapped potential. They forget that he is now older, injury issues and questions about his mental toughness. Should Juve resign him yes, at the wages they are requesting, hell no. Juve is playing a big gamble basically telling him go to market and see what your worth.
