According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Federico Fazio could make his Serie A debut this season as Roma are facing an injury crisis in defence.

The Argentinean defender was left out Roma’s UEFA list for the second part of the campaign and hasn’t yet made his Serie A debut this season.

The former Tottenham defender has only played five Europa League games so far in the current campaign and according to the Rome-based paper, he’s not on good terms with Paulo Fonseca as he also had disagreements with the coach.

The former Tottenham defender has only played five Europa League games so far in the current campaign and according to the Rome-based paper, he’s not on good terms with Paulo Fonseca as he also had disagreements with the coach.

The paper wrote the Portuguese tactician could be “forced” to start the 33-year-old against Benevento tomorrow as the Giallorossi are facing an injury crisis in defence.

Chris Smalling and Marash Kumbulla won’t be available against Filippo Inzaghi’s side, while Robger Ibanez and Bryan Cristante are in doubt.

Therefore, Fonseca could decide to start either Fazio or Juan Jesus at the back.

The Brazilian has only managed nine appearances so far this season, three in Serie A and six in Europa League.

Another option could be to start either Rick Karsdorp or Leonardo Spinazzola in a three-man defence.

The former Juventus winger started among Roma’s defenders in their 2-0 win over Braga in Europa League on Thursday.
