Paulo Fonseca will reportedly ask Shakhtar Donetsk to release him free of charge so he can join Roma, even accepting a pay cut.

The Coach has hinted several times he is ready to move on after three successful years in Ukraine and his representatives had a meeting with Roma directors in Madrid on Tuesday.

The only sticking point now is the €5m release clause in his contract, so Fonseca will meet with Shakhtar Donetsk chiefs over the next 24-48 hours to ask for a smooth exit.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Portuguese boss is so eager to join Roma that he will take a pay cut, earning €2.5m per year for three seasons.

This is less than he’d currently earn in Ukraine, especially with impressive bonuses for results.

Fonseca’s contract with Shakhtar Donetsk runs to June 2020.
