Italy full-back Alessandro Florenzi can’t play against Switzerland but said the others ‘are ready and will play a great game’.

Giovanni Di Lorenzo replaced Florenzi in the 3-0 win over Turkey and will continue at right-back against Switzerland.

The Roma loanee suffered an injury in the opener and has not trained with the rest of the group since, meaning he’s not even on the bench against the Swiss.

The full-back admitted he wished to be on the pitch tonight but stressed the others will ‘give 100 per cent’ to secure another win.

“We are ready. The lads are sure they will play a great game,” he told RAI Sport, before revealing his desire to play. “So much, because in this team we are all good, but everyone has a great desire to play and do well for Italy.

“Today there will be other teammates who will give 100 per cent.”

Florenzi said the group ‘has fun’ under the Azzurri CT Roberto Mancini.

“He asks us to play as we know and have fun,” he said. “Yes, we have fun, we feel together.

“We are a great group, we must continue like this and still believe in ourselves.”

Florenzi has spent one season on loan at Paris Saint-Germain, and was asked about his teammate and France international Kylian Mbappe’s performance in the 1-0 win over Germany.

“I thought that he is a champion,” Florenzi said. “He’s certainly strong, but now I’m thinking of Italy and not Mbappe.”
