Alessandro Florenzi has completed his medical with Milan and is on the verge of completing his move from Roma, getting the No. 25 jersey at the Rossoneri.

The former Roma captain will move to Milan on a paid loan with the option to buy and arrived in the fashion capital this morning for the required medical examinations.

Florenzi has completed the tests and will not continue with the physical test before signing the contract that will make him available for Stefano Pioli in 2021-22.

Sky Sport Italia reports the 30-year-old has been given the No. 25 jersey at Milan, one above the usual number he has carried, as the No. 24 kit is occupied by Simon Kjaer at San Siro.

Florenzi should start training with the rest of the Milan group tomorrow.

  1. Downgrade from Dalot. Harsh.

Positional flexibility – can play RB as a backup, but can play in midfield or even as RW. Given Castillejo and Saelemaekers are the current options, Florenzi is an upgrade.

For the fee and assuming not on crazy wages, good signing IMO.

  2. Florenzi a ‘MASSIVE DOWNGRADE’ from Dalot? This is the epitome of lunatic pessimism.

  3. @Alfredo Rubinato Rodrigues de Sousa

Pessimism I understand but what on earth is ‘lunatic pessimism’? I assume you’ve used google translate and its a direct translation?

Dalot always looked ready off the bench. He filled in at right and left back whilst being injury free. Still very young, he contributed towards 5 goals despite only being a starter in 50% of his matches in Serie A, and performing commendably in the Europa League.

Florenzi was not good enough for a Roma team were all over the place last season, is 30 and over the past 5 seasons, he has missed 61 club matches through injuries. And you’re calling me pessimistic?

  4. Kalulu/Conti (if he stays) can play RB so I see Florenzi playing on the right of the front 3. Saelemakers and Castillejo not good enough.

  5. Dalot is much younger and has potential, but he’s definitely not better than Florenzi at the moment. His price-tag is at least four times more than Florenzi, too.

This is a good deal for Milan.

  6. @DB Milan.

Samu is not good enough, but Alexis is definitely a better player than Florenzi. I’d just prefer to keep Conti as backup to Calabria instead of Florenzi. He brings only one guarantee. Injuries.

Kalulu for me is a centre back through and through. Whenever he was deployed at right back in an emergency, he never really looked comfortable. His positioning let him down on a couple of occasions last season, but for me, he has all the qualities to be an outstanding centre back.

  7. Florenzi downgrade from Dalot? I disagree with that 100 times , the only part of which Dalot is ahead of Florenzi is his age, younger and can still improve , but right now ? No way, and his injuries are nothing out of ordinary as he played through this loan at Valencia and PSG without no injury. And he’s only 30 years old Italian defender which is equal to 25 years old in other league. He might no longer fit in at Roma but thats football. Cafu was released by Roma in 2003 at the age of 33, he was about to sign for Yokohama in Japan when Galliani called him, and he end up playing for Milan for another 5 years winning everything available in the football world. Instead of paying all that money for Dalot to come and deputised for Calabria I will rather go for Florenzi again next year.

  8. Dalot is a very naive player who will probably never fulfil his apparent potential (as he admittedly has a lot of footballing ability). He doesn’t understand defending at all. Too many dumb mistakes from him. I just think he looks like a winger who was converted to fullback/wingback, and will never be great in any of these positions. He’s been around a while now and he’s still very raw and unconvincing. Not a MIlan fan, but it was annoying me how they were persisting in chasing Dalot – don’t think he’s worth the bother. Florenzi is a different level, and a strong character to bring into the group. I think it’s a good signing.

I totally agree about Kalulu though – I thought his best position was supposed to be RB, but I thought he looked really poor there, yet he impressed me a lot playing centre-half earlier in the season.
