Empoli coach Aurelio Andreazzoli said Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri ‘has done a lot for the environment’ at the Azzurri and looks forward to a ‘special’ first round of fixtures in Serie A.

Andreazzoli has replaced Alessio Dionisi at the Stadio Carlo Castellani, as Empoli prepare for their return to the Italian top flight.

Lazio arrive in the first round and Andreazzoli doesn’t believe Empoli have an advantage after competing in the Coppa Italia last week.

“They are in exactly the same conditions we are in,” Andreazzoli said at a press conference. “I don’t see any differences, we won’t have any advantages.

“It’s certain that the first game is always special, because it’s the first and we look forward to it. We want to see if the work done has been fruitful.

“In all situations, the first is always important, we are particularly anxious to give the best of ourselves.”

In the opposite dugout there’s the former Empoli coach Maurizio Sarri, who has since had successful stints at Napoli, Chelsea and Juventus, before joining Lazio this summer.

“I hope it can be a good match,” Andreazzoli said. “Sarri has done a lot for this environment, and we have the desire to overcome ourselves, perhaps even the presumption to do so.

“If it’s a good match, we will have to wait until the end. The conditions are there, because I believe there’s the will on our part to do well.”
