Veteran Italian tactician Emiliano Mondonico has backed former club Fiorentina to be one of Serie A’s revelation sides.

The Viola have endured a number of disappointing recent campaigns, but a number of changes have been made following the appointment of sporting director Daniele Prade and boss Vincenzo Montella.

“The club have moved well on the market,” Mondonico, a Tuscan fan, told Firenze Viola on Wednesday. “Along with Roma, they could be one of the surprises of the new championship.

“I believe that because sides such as Milan and Inter have done little on the market, selling their best players in the process.”

Fiorentina’s hopes for a good term may depend on their ability to keep star man Stevan Jovetic at the club.

“Jovetic is a really important player for this Fiorentina,” he added. “The club need to get the best out of him by getting the right striker to play alongside him.

“If the Viola decide to sell Jo-Jo for an important fee then they would be obliged to bring in two great players straight away – otherwise they would weaken the squad after a good summer of recruiting.”

The Montenegro ace has been linked with Juventus and Manchester City in recent times.
