Andrea Della Valle confirms Fiorentina want to keep Federico Chiesa “at least for a few years”.

The young winger has been linked with the likes of Juventus, but he signed a new contract with the Viola last month.

“I hope to keep the lad with us at least for a few years,” Della Valle, one of the club’s owners said at an event in Arquata del Tronto.

“There’s a good project, then of course it’s up to him to decide but I’m optimistic.”

Fiorentina sold several of their stars over the summer, and Della Valle was also asked about that.

“The players were sold because they wanted a change of atmosphere, even [Matias] Vecino. The only one who wanted to stay was Borja Valero and in the end we clarified things.

“It was right to change and bring new blood to the Viola project.

“January? We’ll see if we need to do something, [director general Pantaleo] Corvino and [sporting director Carlos] Freitas are ready.”

The patron then gave his opinion on the season so far.

“You won’t get anywhere with ifs and buts, though with two points more we’d be closer to sixth and very much in the fight for the Europa League.

“The past years were exceptional and we put in a lot of money, but money doesn’t make the difference – look at Atalanta for an example.

“Unless you want to win the Scudetto, it doesn’t necessarily follow that who spends the most wins, just look at Milan.

“We can no longer sustain a certain type of investment.”
