There’s more financial trouble in Serie C, as both Arezzo and Vicenza players are threatening strike action over unpaid wages.

Modena have already been excluded from Group B of Italian football’s third tier, after the club went bankrupt and failed to fulfil their fixtures.

In the same group, Vicenza have been deducted four points already, but their players have remained unpaid.

Now the AIC, the Italian players’ union, has warned that the players will strike for the game against Gubbio on Friday if they aren’t paid.

“The AIC and the professional players registered by Vicenza Calcio S.p.A. club, want to highlight the anomalous situation of the club, and formally communicate the state of agitation and a notice to strike,” a statement confirmed.

“As is well known, there has been a long period of uncertainty and broken promises, a situation which concluded yesterday with the non-payment of salaries for the months of September and October 2017, the deadline set by the COVISOC controls.

“We’re coming up to the Christmas holidays, and the players – as well as some staff – haven’t received the monthly payments due.

“The extent of the disruption and the terms of a possible rescue plan are not known.

“For these reasons, the professional footballers registered with the company Vicenza Calcio S.p.A. may not take the field next Friday in Gubbio, and are fully supported by the AIC in their protest.”

In Group A, Arezzo were recently sold to new owners, but the players still haven’t been paid for September and October, and the club will be deducted points for that.

The AIC confirmed that there has been “no formal communication by the new ownership with regard to the timing of the outstanding payments”.

Despite that, the players will play the next match away at Arzachena, but will strike against Giana Erminio if they aren’t paid.
