The Giallorossi’s win in Florence saw them leapfrog Paulo Sousa’s side and move into first place, but Mencucci is adamant that a gap in quality doesn’t exist.

"President Tavecchio of the FIGC congratulated me for the unlucky match on Sunday,” he told La Repubblica.

“Experts of football understand that we wasted a good chance because I don’t think that Roma are better than Fiorentina.

“On the pitch we were beaten, but objectively from the level of play it doesn’t seem to me that we were inferior to our opponents.

"We remain convinced of our potential, we are confident of our ability and we are convinced that from the next match against Verona we will be back to picking up points, because ultimately the Fiorentina style of play has never gone missing.

“On Sunday people rightly applauded the team and the Viola owners were also very pleased with the performance of Fiorentina.

“Now we just need to find positive results as soon as possible.”
