"I'm really sorry for what happened,” said Ferreyra in a statement via the official Shakhtar Donetsk Twitter feed.

“That’s football, it was a very emotional moment in the match. There was no evil intent on my part. I hope the boy, Matteo is all right now. I would like to once again convey the words of apology to the boy, his family and the club.”

Roma accepted the apology and the boy in question, named as Matteo Cancellieri, has forgiven Ferreyra too.

He also received a gift from Giallorossi captain De Rossi in the form of a signed jersey.

Grazie di cuore Cap!
