Just days after Sampdoria patron Massimo Ferrero received death threats attached to a pig’s head, he was present in the stands for their Serie A match against Lazio, ending a four-month absence.

Ferrero is still the owner of the club, even though he was forced to step down as President after his arrest for fraudulent bankruptcy in December 2021.

He has turned down takeover bids, including a recent one from American investors Merlyn Partners, insisting he can keep Sampdoria afloat.

Blucerchiati fans had already turned on him long before he stepped down and they now consider him a figure of hate, believing he is keeping Samp from moving forward with new owners.

The last time Ferrero was in the stands for a Sampdoria match was at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Genoa against Roma in October 2022, but he lasted only a few minutes before he had to be evacuated by police, as the local supporters were threatening to riot.

That was until today, when he was spotted at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome for their game against Lazio.

His presence may well have been a response to the death threats received over the weekend, when a box containing a pig’s head was delivered to the Sampdoria headquarters in Genoa.

It was accompanied by a note promising the next heads would belong to Ferrero and vice-president Romei.
