Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano hailed Cristiano Biraghi’s ‘inspiration’ when taking a free kick quickly to score from over 63 yards, while Verona boss Marco Zaffaroni gave his view on the incident.

The Viola were already 2-0 up at the Stadio Bentegodi when they were awarded a free kick inside their own half.

With Rolando Mandragora still on the ground and Verona players checking on him, Biraghi took the free kick quickly and managed to beat Lorenzo Montipò from 57.9 metres (over 63 yards).

“Biraghi did very well, because that’s the kind of inspiration you need every now and then,” Italiano told DAZN.

“It’s rare we find situations like that. He deserves credit also for the finish, because it wasn’t easy from that distance. He is a captain, this is a great goal and it’s only right that we celebrate it.”

Verona were furious at the time, especially as even the referee did not seem entirely aware of what was happening.

However, speaking to the media after the match, Hellas coach Zaffaroni assured Biraghi had done nothing wrong.

“The 3-0 result is excessive considering the performances, but we must always accept the result on the pitch. We lost against a strong side, were a little naïve at times, and at 1-0 did have the opportunities to get back into it.

“We need to take the chances when they come along and that is what Fiorentina did. Things happen on the pitch, we mustn’t let our heads drop.”
