Cremonese defender Luka Lochoshvili received the FIFA Fair Play Award at this evening’s The Best ceremony for the quick thinking that helped save an opponent’s life.

The incident happened when he was still playing for Austrian side Wolfsberger AC and realised during a match that his Austria Vienna opponent Georg Teigl had lost consciousness after a collision.

The Georgian sprinted over and reacted immediately, preventing Teigl from swallowing his tongue.

“Fortunately, I just knew what to do. Everyone would have reacted like that in this situation. I think I caught his tongue at the last second,” said Lochoshvili at the time.

The defender joined Serie A side Cremonese in August 2022 for €1.6m.

He was not present at the ceremony because Cremonese are hosting Roma tomorrow evening in Serie A.
