Jamie Carragher attracted the attention of unimpressed Milan and England fans after leaving out Fikayo Tomori in his personal Three Lions squad for the World Cup in Qatar.

The 24-year-old English defender has grown into a complete centre back under Stefano Pioli in the Lombardy capital following his arrival from Chelsea in January 2021, being a key part of their Scudetto success last season.

Despite his growth in Italy, Gareth Southgate has barely used Tomori, only playing him twice since the end of Euro 2020. The Rossoneri defender now seems at risk of being left out of the England squad for the upcoming World Cup, an incredibly disappointing possibility for the 24-year-old.

Southgate is set to announce his England squad for the World Cup tomorrow and Carragher took to Twitter yesterday to share his own picks for the tournament. It didn’t take long for observers to notice the absence of Tomori, causing many fans to express their confusion.

  1. they need tomori, however with carragher team – poor – dier and mcguire in defence both are playing really poor

  2. Well we will have 2 representatives on other side in Mckenie and Dest. Hope they along Pulisic and Reyna tear England’s defense a new one. England will have a poor world cup.

  3. I’m not surprised. Rather than Carraghers, I’ve been unimpressed with Tomori this season actually.

He makes too many mistakes both on the ground and in the air and has been individually the most at fault on goals conceded this season.

HOWEVER, I must add that he is still far better than those buffoons Maguire and Dier.

  4. Good for him. I remember when Nigeria football want this guy like crazy, he snup them for england

  5. Its too bad, Tomori was born in Calgary and was eligible to play for Canada! he would have anchored the defense and logged every single min on the pitch for Les Rouge!

  6. I get it that Tomori hasnt played as well as last season, but STILL, would you pick Maguire over him? What do these Englishmen see in Maguire really, apart from his tag that is.
