Roberto Mancini says he would rather lift the Europa League with Inter than finish third in Serie A this season.

Winning the Europa League will grant entry to the Champions League for the first time this season, with third place in the League offering the same reward, and the former Manchester City manager believes winning a trophy would be preferable.

“As a club we want to be back in the Champions League,” Mancini told Corriere dello Sport.

Winning the Europa League will grant entry to the Champions League for the first time this season, with third place in the League offering the same reward, and the former Manchester City manager believes winning a trophy would be preferable.

“As a club we want to be back in the Champions League,” Mancini told Corriere dello Sport.

“We know we have two routes to achieve this.

“What would I choose? Well, the Europa League would be better than third place, because it would mean we’d lifted a trophy after just six months.

“Having said that, I’m content to reach the target [however we do it].”

The Coach also echoed the words of Inter director general Marco Fassone, who has warned that Inter are concentrating on the summer transfer window.

“You’d have to ask Fassone [about transfers], though we might try to change the team without spending a lot of money.

“In the meantime, we must work with the team we have. Also we must consider that the January transfer window is not simple.

“To buy just for the sake of buying wouldn’t make any sense. If we can make the right movements, setting up deals for June I think we’ll be able to do that.

“I’ll speak to the President soon.”

Mancini’s men lost to Roma on Sunday night, and the Inter Coach believes that the Giallorossi will battle it out with Juventus for the Scudetto this season.

“The Scudetto is between Juve and Roma. Juventus are very solid, the Giallorossi are technically very good, I don’t know who will win.”
