Pippo Inzaghi has named 23 players in his Milan squad to face Empoli, including Jeremy Menez, but not Michael Essien.

Essien sustained a foot injury in the build-up to the weekend defeat to Juventus and, after skipping that eventual 1-0 defeat, he has also been ruled out of the midweek trip to the Stadio Carlo Castellani.

However, Menez is included in the party, despite doubts over his availability with an adductor issue picked up on Saturday.

Speculation is that Fernando Torres is in line for a first start for the Rossoneri and it may come at the Frenchman’s expense.

Daniele Bonera returns to the squad following his one-game suspension served against Juve, but Alex, Diego Lopez, Riccardo Montolivo and Riccardo Saponara are all still out with injury.

Milan squad to face Empoli: Abbiati, Agazzi, Gori, Abate, Albertazzi, Armero, Bonera, De Sciglio, Mexes, Rami, Zaccardo, Zapata, De Jong, Muntari, Poli, Van Ginkel, Bonaventura, El Shaarawy, Honda, Menez, Niang, Pazzini, Torres.
