He has since rediscovered his form at Roma and bagged a brace in last night’s 3-1 win away to Empoli.
“There are many reasons for his lack of success at Monaco, perhaps some of it his own responsibility, but he barely played,” Pastorelli told Radio 24.

“He is a very technical player and therefore like a fish out of water in the current Monaco approach to football.
“Luciano Spalletti is one of the best Italian Coaches out there and his arrival reinvigorated Roma, who can now be outsider challengers for third place.
“If El Shaarawy had come back to Milan instead, he would not have done as well as he’s currently doing at Roma. This is a side that relishes players with great technique.”
