Gigio Donnarumma was targeted by Milan fans on social media after PSG’s Champions League exit, but the Italy international said he was ‘happy’ to see his ex-teammates qualify for the quarter-finals.

The Ligue 1 giants lost 3-0 on aggregate to Bayern Munich, facing a 2-0 defeat in Germany on Wednesday. On the same night, Milan secured a 0-0 draw in North London against Tottenham, qualifying for the quarter-finals for the first time in 11 years thanks to a 1-0 win at San Siro in February.

Milan fans don’t seem to have forgotten about their ex-idol Donnarumma who left San Siro at the end of his contract in June 2021, joining PSG as a free agent.

The Italy international said he had joined the Ligue 1 giants because they had ‘different ambitions’ and many Milan fans on social media have mocked him on social media after PSG’s Champions League exit and Milan qualification.

‘Donnarumma’ is among the trending topics in Italy on Twitter after Wednesday’s Champions League fixtures.

During a post-match interview with Sky Sport Italia, the Italian confirmed that he never regretted joining PSG.

“I am proud to be part of this club, I’ve never had doubts. I am happy to be here. Unfortunately, the Champions League is down to details. If you make a mistake, you concede a goal. We must be more focused,” he said.

“We must keep our heads held high. I am happy for my ex-teammates. Unfortunately, we did not qualify so there is a great disappointment.”

  1. For a long time, gigio and romagnoli were the only shining light in a struggling milan side, giving their all for the shirt! Milan wouldnt have made it back into the top four without gigio, so his contributions cannot be questioned! These trolls need to leave him alone! He made his own decision for his own career! Let him be!
