Reports in Italy claim Roberto Mancini will give Argentina-born Mateo Retegui his first Azzurri call-up for the upcoming fixtures against England and Malta.

The Italian tactician complained about his lack of options up front in his latest interview with Il Messaggero newspaper on Wednesday.

Now, according to Tuttosport and Sportmediaset, the Azzurri CT will give a chance to Boca Juniors striker Retegui, a 23-year-old born in San Fernando, Argentina, but with an Italian passport.

Retegui is on loan to Tigre but is expected to return to Boca at the end of the year.

He has scored six goals in six appearances in the Argentina’s Superliga this season.

As per Sportmediaset, Mancini has already informed Retegui that he will be given his first call-up for the next two international fixtures against England and Malta, the opening two games in the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

If he accepts, he will no longer be allowed to play for Argentina.

The Azzurri will host the Three Lions at the Stadio Maradona on March 23, visiting Malta three days later.
