Inter full-back Dodo is sure the Nerazzurri can “stay near the top and play to the end” for the Scudetto.

The Beneamata are currently sitting in second place, two points behind leaders Fiorentina, but have opened up an early lead on Juventus, Napoli, Roma and Milan.

“This campaign has started in a different way [to previous seasons],” Dodo said in a Press conference.

“We’re second, and we want to fight. We can stay near the top and play until the end. The team is very strong compared to last year, it’s more physical and we have a lot of qualities and options.

“This year we have a lot of options up front, more players than last year. This is a squad equipped to battle until the end.”

The Brazilian has been out since March with a knee ligament injury, and is now working on forcing his way back into the picture for club and country.

“There are so many people to thank, first of all the doctors and the staff at Inter who have helped me, the club, the Coach [Roberto Mancini] and all the lads who have come to see me when I’ve been training alone.

“Sometimes you get bored when you train alone. The first month is the hardest, because you’re still feeling pain and you can’t even work hard in the gym.

“Mentally, that’s the month you have to be strong. My goal was to return as soon as possible, now I’m available, and I hope to help the team reach our goals.

“I hope to go back to being a starter and get back in the national team, given that’s where I was at this time last year.

“The competition is good, at one point last year it was just me, and a team which wants to win needs a lot of players.

“It’s good for the boss, as he has a lot of options and he can focus on who can help the team. I feel good, even better than when I arrived at Inter.

“I’m motivated and I want to play, my goal is to give the boss a headache, and win a place in the team.

"I’m not thinking about January or June, I want to play and the team’s objective is to finish as high as possible.”
