Hellas Verona coach Eusebio Di Francesco said he ‘arrives from two bad seasons and I really want to make up for it’ ahead of the Gialloblu’s opening game against Sassuolo on Saturday.

Di Francesco starts the season against his former club Sassuolo, where he experienced great success during his two stints between 2012 and 2017.

The 51-year-old brought Sassuolo to Serie A and guided the Neroverdi to the Europa League and moved to Roma after his success at the Mapei Stadium.

But after his two years with the Giallorossi, he has suffered during short spells with Sampdoria and Cagliari, sacked by both after poor starts to the season.

He was appointed to replace Ivan Juric at the Bentegodi and prepares for a new season with high expectations.

“For a coach, the responsibilities are always there,” Di Francesco said at a press conference. “What I like about this team, is that it already has a mentality that I want to keep.

“I have come from two bad seasons, and I really want to make up for it, it’s normal.”

Verona have been linked with Atalanta striker Sam Lammers, but the coach didn’t want to talk about the transfer market with the press.

“I can’t talk about players not registered to play for Verona,” he said. “We are trying to work on the transfer market, but I trust [sporting director Tony] D’Amico a lot.”
