Paolo Di Canio explains why Christian Pulisic can ‘do even better’ in Italy and the crucial difference between his form at Milan and Chelsea.

The striker is in the form of his life since making the €20m transfer to San Siro over the summer, scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists in 39 competitive games.

In not even a full season, he has already set a new personal best for goals in one campaign and matched Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie as the top all-time USMNT scorer in Serie A with nine goals.

“Pulisic has a great deal of experience, he has already won in his career,” Di Canio said in his role as pundit on Sky Sport Italia.

“He is a player with pace, who controls the ball well, thinks quickly, and can do even better in Italy. The reason is that he is not finding the same injuries that slowed him down, so consequently he is finding consistency.

“He is a player who makes the difference: as a winger, he can cut inside, he can combine. In the most recent match he sprinted to reach a tap-in after 50 metres.

“Those fresh legs are an important element.”

While Pulisic had a couple of muscular issues at Milan this season in October and November, they are nothing compared to the lengthy absences he suffered at Chelsea.

The most serious included an ankle sprain in 2021, knee injury in January 2023 and adductor tear in January 2020.
