Paolo Di Canio feels it’s ‘not normal’ José Mourinho will miss the fourth away game at San Siro as a Roma coach and that the Special One doesn’t show up for post-match interviews when ‘things don’t go well.’

The Portuguese coach was sent off during Roma’s 1-1 draw against Atalanta on Sunday and didn’t talk to the media after the game.

This means he will get a one-match ban and won’t go on the bench next week when his Roma side visit Milan at San Siro. Mourinho has already missed three away games in Milan from eight since his move to Roma in 2021, twice against Milan and once against Inter.

“This can’t be the norm,” former Lazio and Juventus striker Di Canio told Sky Sport Italia.

“Mourinho has missed three games from eight in Milan. Even one would be too much, no? It can’t be normal. I don’t want to sound controversial, but Mourinho is a regular about this.

“It happens with many other teams too. When things don’t go well, they don’t show up. I want to talk about football with those directly involved, so this has to change and somebody should intervene.”

Mourinho was unhappy with the officiating and didn’t even talk to the media after Roma’s draw on Sunday.

“It doesn’t only happen with Roma, but something must be done,” continued Di Canio.

“It must be mandatory to talk to the media; that’s why we should tell the coaches: ‘Please, aside from the complaints, let’s talk about football, substitutions and these things. We should have the strength and personality to do this.”

Roma currently sit eighth in the Serie A table, four points below fourth-placed Fiorentina. Their next game is against Lazio in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals on Wednesday, January 10, before Sunday’s away match against Milan.
