The Bianconeri legend captained them to the first of their six consecutive Scudetti, and sat down with Radio Deejay to discuss this year’s title race.

“For me [Coach Max] Allegri’s team remain a step above the others because of what they’ve done in recent years,” Del Piero said.

“They’ve had a less flashy transfer campaign than the others, but they’ve tended towards strengthening an already strong team.

“I hope though that the Milan clubs, Napoli and Roma are all in the fight for the Scudetto, so we can see an even more exciting league than last year where Napoli and Roma did something extraordinary by holding back a really strong Juventus.”

Del Piero made 705 appearances for Juve during his playing career, and is their all-time top-scorer, could he return in some capacity?

“There are some number 10 shirts free, maybe I should start training again!” the World Cup winner joked.

“I can’t say what I told you off air… Let’s say [my future is] toward Piedmont…”
