Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez has revealed expectations for the new season and how he sees Juan Cuadrado as similar to Franck Ribery.

Heading into the new season, the German international says La Viola should be aiming for a top-three finish.

“We have to try to get into the Champions League,” Gomez has told the Corriere dello Sport today.

“I don’t like making big statements, but I’ll say that we will try. I hope that there will be less distance with those that finished before us.

“But it won’t be easy, Roma are always very strong, like Juve as well. And we also have to contend with Milan and Inter, who moved themselves on the transfer market.”

This summer has seen Gomez’s teammate Cuadrado continually linked with a move away, but he now looks set to stay. For the forward, the Colombian’s level is clear to see.

“When speaking of talent and potential, I would say that Cuadrado is on the same level as Ribery, even though I don’t like making comparisons because each player is different.

“Of course, after a while experience counts as well and Ribery and Robben have that in spades. When I was young I wasn’t on the level that I am now either and this goes for everyone.

“Cuadrado has incredible talent and I will be happy if he stays with us.”
