Bryan Cristante wants to win a title with Roma after Italy’s EURO 2020 triumph: ‘José Mourinho has brought enthusiasm.’

The 26-year-old was part of the Azzurri squad that won EURO 2020.

“It was important to me and to everyone, but not just for football. It was important for the whole country. Italy hadn’t won this title for 53 years and we made Italians spend beautiful evenings, it was much needed after all that we have been through,” Cristante told Il Corriere dello Sport.

The midfielder is enjoying his holiday before returning to the Capital, where he will meet the new Roma coach José Mourinho.

“We have never lacked enthusiasm, but when you see that things are not going the right way and goals are moving away, you inevitably lose conviction.

“This is the reason for certain defeats against small teams last season. With the arrival of Mourinho, there is certainly an enthusiasm that was not there before,” Cristante said.

The Special One won the first summer friendly in charge of the Giallorossi 10-0 and Nicolò Zaniolo played his first game in almost one year.

“We know how strong Zaniolo is, we have been waiting for him and we hope he can help us to win,” Cristante said.

“My target is to celebrate with Roma, we want to win a trophy that has been missed for too long.

“The Friedkins have clear ideas, they are managing the club in a very professional way,” he continued.

“They are always following our training sessions on the pitch, they have an important project.”
