Alessandro Costacurta was not impressed with Milan’s attack, feeling that they don’t match the standard set by the rest of the team.
The Rossoneri still sit top of the Serie A table after 33 games, but they risk dropping behind intercity rivals Inter should they win their game in hand against Bologna. In the Milanese club’s last 11 Serie A matches, they’ve only scored 11 goals, which has seen them pick up five draws.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Costacurta commented on if Milan are missing that extra spark in this decisive stage of the season.
“I don’t think it’s the fact that we focus on the squad. I think the strength of the squad is the sum of it’s parts.
“In this period Milan is just like that, how can you say now that Milan are not playing the game or doing the right things to be a team, to be a squad. In my opinion it is and it showed that against Inter.”
He then discussed how the Rossoneri’s offensive is what’s letting them down in recent months.
“The truth is that up front, and I take responsibility for what I say, they’re not up to the standard of the team behind them.
“The team still manages to play a good game but up front the individuals are not at their best, this has happened and it can happen.”
The loss of Zlatan Ibrahimovic has forced Milan to rely on Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leao almost exclusively for their goals, something which clearly can’t continue forever. They’ll be hoping to recover the Swedish veteran for some of the remaining games of the season.

Leao is like a jack in the box ……. moving clumsily …. limbs seem stuck together by some kind of glue ….. always promising a lot actually and always delivering just, let’s say, 20% of his true potential ……. milan should simply give him to whoever is interested in him, today rather than tomorrow …..
