Milan will face Inter in the Coppa Italia semi-final after sweeping Lazio aside 4-0, with Rafael Leao, Franck Kessie and an Olivier Giroud double.
Sandro Tonali was booked and will therefore be suspended for the first leg, as the semi-final is the only round to be played over two legs.
The Rossoneri missed Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Simon Kjaer and Matteo Gabbia, while Fikayo Tomori and Ante Rebic were only fit for the bench. Maurizio Sarri had to do without Francesco Acerbi and Jean-Daniel Akpa-Akpro, making changes in midfield, but had kept four consecutive clean sheets in all competition.
Rafael Leao broke the deadlock when he sprung the offside trap on an inspired Alessio Romagnoli through ball and kept his cool to sweep past Pepe Reina into the far bottom corner with the inside of his left boot.
Ciro Immobile ran onto a splendid Sergej Milinkovic-Savic ball over the top and Mike Maignan realised he wasn’t going to get there, so pulled out at the last second to avoid a penalty.
Leao was instrumental in Milan’s second goal too, as Brahim Diaz won it back in midfield from Toma Basic, the Portuguese forward skipped away from defenders with a shimmy and rolled across the six-yard box for Olivier Giroud’s tap-in.
There was a third on the stroke of half-time with another Brahim Diaz counter-attack, this time spreading to the left for Theo Hernandez, whose pass went past six Lazio players to find Giroud’s tap-in.
There was more bad news for Lazio, who lost Immobile after a knock to the ankle, while Milinkovic-Savic flicked on a Luis Alberto corner and Patric couldn’t quite reach at the back post for the final touch.
Instead, Milan made it 4-0 when a Daniel Maldini free kick ricocheted around off Luiz Felipe and Manuel Lazzari, falling at the feet of Kessie to drill in from eight yards.
