Lazio and Italy are concerned after Ciro Immobile hobbled off during the Coppa Italia quarter-final with Milan due to an ankle injury.

The centre-forward saw his shot charged down by Pierre Kalulu and in the process kicked his ankle against the defender’s shinpad.

It seemed very serious at first, as he had to be carried off by two members of the Lazio medical staff and could barely put his right foot on the ground.

Immobile came back on after treatment, but only lasted a couple of minutes before asking to be substituted.

With the Aquile trailing 3-0, there was no need to risk further damage

It was a worrying sight both for Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri, but also Italy coach Roberto Mancini, who was in the stands at San Siro to watch the game.

Italy have an upcoming World Cup play-off against North Macedonia next month, then either Portugal or Turkey, and Immobile is expected to be the first choice to start upfront.

After loaning Vedat Muriqi to Real Mallorca in the January transfer window, Sarri also effectively does not have any other senior centre-forwards to replace Immobile.

  1. Man every day I read articles here I get more upset for Mancini, as player injuries are racking up. soon we’ll only have left Balotelli and eager-beaver-Govinco

  2. You are right they are hungry and I actually liked especially Balotelli during the Prandelli days, if we see Giovinco instead of Insigne (since we lost another one to injuries that diamond Rossi) feed the ball to Balotelli it could be lethal

  3. Immobile getting injured is no scare for Italy since almost every time he plays he’s one of the worst players on pitch

  4. Lol. Now that Kalulu injured Immobile while Mancini watching on the stand, he won’t call any Milan ayer into Gli Azzuri until his reign ends

  5. not a great loss he,s been so poor for italy when you look at his stats goal scored-
Euro final 8 games 2 goals
    World cup qualifiers 2 goals
1 of which was a penalty
his ratio is 1 goal every 4 games nearly
    not a great loss

  6. I do think Ciro does make space for others so yes he is not scoring for Italy but he does do his bit. Should he not, then we do have Scamacca, Balo and Belotti is on his way back so lets be positive and get behind Italy rather than writing them off. I hope Ciro recovers and is made available for selection.

  7. As for Mancio not picking Milan players, I do not believe this to be true. He was watching Calabria, Romagnioli, Tonali, Luis Felipe, Cataldi, Zaccagni and Immobile. I thought all of the Italians played very well. Tonali was replaced but only because he was yellow carded.

  8. for Lazio maybe…. for Italy per favore grazie per averti rotto la gamba… statte a a casa
Please Ciro as a #1 option striker for Italy does nothing, Euro 20202 he was useless and Belotti even worse. These guys have been there for 2 years and their scoring is horrible for strikers. Time for new bllod, Kean Scamacca, Raspadori and yes Balotelli… this guy is the true striker and when in full form and confidence he scores, look at his stats with Italy, plus now with the midfield italy has, he will get tons of ball chances to score…
