Rafael Leao admits Milan were ‘fired up’ for their 4-0 victory over Lazio and now can’t wait for the semi-final against rivals Inter. ‘The Coppa Italia is a competition we want to win.’

The Rossoneri had it all sealed up by half-time with Rafael Leao scoring one from an inspired Alessio Romagnoli assist, then Olivier Giroud bagged a quickfire brace of tap-ins.

Franck Kessie sealed the 4-0 result late on when a Daniel Maldini free kick was knocked down into his path.

Coppa Italia | Milan 4-0 Lazio: Leao and Giroud book derby date

This means Milan will face rivals Inter in the Coppa Italia semi-final, the only round which will be played over two legs.

“After the derby, a very important game for us, we arrived for tonight fired up and I thought we had an extraordinary performance. It was the right result,” Leao told Sport Mediaset just days after beating Inter 2-1 in Serie A.

“Now we’re in the semi-final, the Coppa Italia is a competition Milan want to win. I am always ready to help my team with goals or assists, but the most important thing is that the team gets into the semi-final.”

Leao was asked if Giroud had thanked him for that assist laid on a silver platter for the tap-in from a couple of yards.

“Yes, but that is my job and I’m happy!”
