Juventus and Italy captain Giorgio Chiellini reveals he received the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine this morning and urged everyone to ‘play our part’ in battling the pandemic.

The defender posted an image of himself wearing a mask and sitting at the post-vaccine station at the J-Medical centre, having been given the booster jab.

“This morning I received the third dose of the anti-COVID-19 vaccine,” wrote Chiellini on social media.

“It is thanks to the vaccine and personal protective wear that we are battling for a return to normality. We should all play our part, so let’s get vaccinated for ourselves and to protect those who are more fragile.”

The vast majority of Serie A players are vaccinated, but the time is coming for many of them to get booster shots after six months, as the effectiveness begins to wane.

That has been evident in the recent spate of positive COVID-19 tests among teams, including Roma’s Bryan Cristante, Gonzalo Villar and Felix Afena-Gyan, plus Mattia Destro and Diego Demme at Napoli.
