Rafael Leao wants to stay at Milan and is reportedly in a hurry to sign a new contract, despite the serious interest from Chelsea.

The 23-year-old Portuguese forward was one of the stars of the show in the Rossoneri’s successful Scudetto run last season, scoring 11 goals and providing 10 assists in 34 Serie A appearances, and his impressive campaign saw him attract the attention of Chelsea, who were looking to make a move for him in the summer.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Leao doesn’t want to leave Milan and is in a hurry to sign a new contract, wanting to close the chapter and fully focus on the pitch. Chelsea are still keen but now a move to West London is looking increasingly unlikely.

The Portuguese forward obviously wants a pay rise from his current €2m net per season salary and talks are the club’s management are ongoing. No agreement has been found yet, with the player asking for wages close to €7m net per season and Milan offering up to €6m.

Leao wants to put pen to paper soon due to a number of factors, starting with the upcoming World Cup in Qatar. He’s also concerned about the €19m in compensation owed to Sporting Lisbon for the unilateral contract termination in 2018, something he’s hoping the Rossoneri will take responsibility for. Then there’s also the question of the 15% future resale clause that Lille are entitled to.

The next three months will be incredibly important for the 23-year-old Portuguese forward, who is keen to give answers on the pitch despite all the noise off it.

  1. Sign the contract , focus on the football and silence the doubters.
Leao can be one of the best players in the world if he really wants to be.
Oi Redbird this is your chance to make a statement of intent , get him to sign and lets start this new era of dominance

  2. Mendes is the one pulling the strings here. The 7mil request is his doing. If MIlan don’t accept he’s the only one who stands to benefit as he will get a hefty commission from the next club…. These super agents are becoming viruses.

  3. @ACM1899,
They’ve always been viruses. Give hime 6.5 with bonuses and call it even. I don’t know what Milan are waiting for.
