Fabio Cannavaro is ready to return to action in Italy after reaching an agreement with Benevento to become their new head coach.

The 49-year-old Italian has been out of work in football since last September, when he left Chinese outfit Guangzhou Evergrande after a four-year spell. He averaged 2.06 points per match with the club and guided them to a Chinese Super League title and a Chinese Super Cup.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Cannavaro is ready to return to the Italian peninsula and reached an agreement with Benevento last night to become their new head coach. The 2006 World Cup winner is set to put pen to paper on the contract later today.

The Campania side currently sit 13th in the Serie B table after six games and their poor start has been enough to see them replace Fabio Caserta with Cannavaro.

Daniele De Rossi was heavily linked with the job but eventually his former Azzurri teammate won out.
