There had been reports in the English media today that Pipita was on his way for a medical and would be registered ahead of the showdown with Tottenham next week.

However, Milan will not let him leave until they have his replacement under lock and key.

It’s bad news for Chelsea, as talks with Genoa for Piatek have been adjourned to Tuesday.

A deal is still imminent for €35m plus bonuses and midfielder Alen Halilovic, but won’t be completed for several more days.

Higuain is technically owned by Juventus, who sent him to Milan on loan over the summer for €18m with option to buy for another €36m.

Those terms will be handed over to Chelsea, with the additional agreement they can extend the loan by another 12 months.

Sky Sport Italia also claim Maurizio Sarri spoke to Higuain over the phone this evening, assuring him to wait a few days for the move to go through.
