Milan are expected to sign Krzysztof Piatek from Genoa for €35m plus bonuses, claim Sky Sport Italia, including Alen Halilovic, but not Andrea Bertolacci.

There was a four-hour summit today in Milan involving President Enrico Preziosi, directors Leonardo, Paolo Maldini, Ivan Gazidis and Giorgio Perinetti, along with Piatek’s agent.

Although the negotiations were adjourned until Tuesday, after Milan have played Genoa in Serie A on Monday afternoon, the deal is believed to be essentially done.

Genoa refused to accept any other format for the purchase, including a loan with option to buy or loan with obligation, even when the Rossoneri threatened to walk away.

What the Grifone did agree to was the inclusion of a player to reduce the overall cost.

Halilovic now has to work out personal terms with Genoa before making the transfer to Marassi.

Bertolacci had been due to join him, but Sky Sport Italia report he was not content with a return to his former club and will wait until he becomes a free agent in the summer.

Genoa only paid €4.5m to sign 23-year-old Piatek from Cracovia Krakow in July 2018, but he scored a spectacular 19 goals in 21 competitive games.

The €35m plus bonuses is less than West Ham United had offered, but Genoa have a very strong bond with Milan and they regularly do transfers, so got the priority.

This delay until Tuesday does however mean that Gonzalo Higuain should remain at San Siro until then, not completing his Chelsea transfer via Juventus until next week.
