The Sunday Express newspaper now claims that they are turning their focus towards PSG hitman Cavani instead.

He is older than Higuain and turns 32 next month, while he is under contract until June 2020.

The Uruguay international has scored 13 goals in 18 competitive games this season, along with four assists.

Cavani has been repeatedly linked with a departure from Paris Saint-Germain amid rumours of tension with teammate Neymar.

His destination was believed to be either a big money move to China or a return to his former club Napoli, where he played from 2010-13.

Cavani has said he would like to move closer to his children, who are based in Naples.
