Referee Tobias Stieler will be looking to maintain control in an electric Champions League clash between Liverpool and Napoli.

The Partenopei have already booked their spot in the Round of 16 of the competition after winning their first five outings and they can secure the top spot of Group A with a positive result against the Reds, giving them a slightly more favourable draw in the knock-out stages. Napoli picked up a confident 4-1 win over Liverpool in their first meeting in September.

The 41-year-old Stieler has been assigned to officiate tonight’s game at Anfield between Liverpool and Napoli, his third Champions League match this season. The German official is an experienced referee, having overseen 155 Bundesliga matches in the past.

Stieler has officiated one Liverpool match in the past, their 1-0 win over Ajax back in December 2020. He’s never been involved in a Napoli game before, although he’s overseen games involving Juventus, Roma, Inter and Lazio
