Sampdoria striker Francesco Caputo said Napoli are ‘the team with the best form’ in Serie A but believes the Blucerchiati can give them trouble on Thursday.

The former Sassuolo striker has scored two goals in two games since joining Sampdoria this summer, both in the 3-0 win over Empoli last time.

The 34-year-old knows Sampdoria face a stern test against Napoli on Thursday but stressed Roberto D’Aversa’s men ‘are ready’.

“I watched the match in Udine on TV, on paper they are the team with the best form,” Caputo told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“They know what they want and thus they have changed the least. But we are ready.”

Sampdoria have picked up five points in four games and are unbeaten in their last three, arriving from 2-2 against Inter and a 3-0 win over Empoli.

The Blucerchiati are called ‘cheeky’ by the pundits and Caputo said the coach has played a vital part so far.

“This is a very positive fact, a characteristic that the coach passed on to us and that I had already noticed watching Sampdoria’s games before arriving,” Caputo said.

“We try to push the opponents, but always with balance.”

Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has scored three goals in four competitive games so far and is a constant threat for the opponents.

Caputo praised the Nigerian 22-year-old but stressed the Partenopei have many dangerous weapons up front.

“Apart from him, they have great players in [Lorenzo] Insigne, [Hirving] Lozano, [Piotr] Zielinski,” he said. “He [Osimhen] is doing well, he’s strong physically and mentally, he knows how to attack spaces.

“You cannot leave him any space; he won’t show you any mercy. But we will have a great game.”
