Juventus winger Federico Chiesa stepped up after a difficult week and contributed a great performance in the 3-2 win over Spezia on Wednesday.

Massimiliano Allegri put the spotlight on the former Fiorentina man, as the Italy international was targeted by the media when the coach angrily accused the substitutes of not contributing in the 1-1 draw with Milan in the fourth round of fixtures.

Reports emerged regarding a difficult relationship between Allegri and Chiesa, but the youngster responded in a great way against the Aquilotti.

Serie A Highlights: Spezia 2-3 Juventus

The winger, who scored the equaliser to make it 2-2 in the second half, promptly responded on the pitch after the criticism.

He played 84 miinutes before asking to get subbed off due to a tight flexor, as the winger has recently recovered from an injury he suffered on international duty this month.

La Gazzetta dello Sport analysed his performances in the first win of the season, when the winger stringed together 20 complete passes and seven crosses, in addition to his goal.

What’s behind Allegri’s words on Chiesa

He created a total of eight chances, won 19 duels, intercepted eight times and dribbled four times during the match against Thiago Motta’s men.

Matthijs de Ligt scored the winner for the Bianconeri, who aim to build on the win against Spezia when Sampdoria arrive in Turin this weekend.

  1. @Boori, Allegri is stopping him becoming complacent now that he is well and truly in the spotlight. He’ll become an even better player for it.

  2. sometimes as a coach you have to try light the fire under a player. mourinho did it when he called samuel etoo an old man in the media when he was at chelsea. he responded to that. conte even did it with barella when he said basically he doesnt feel he has enough quality yet to run a midfield. this is what allegri is doing with chiesa

  3. I’m glad to see the comments from Token Bubble and Serie a lover. My biggest worry about Chiesa is the fans and media in particular turning him into another Cassano or Balotelli – highly rated youngsters who due to all the hype around them became complacent and eventually never reached anywhere near their full potential. We’ve seen it with so many English players always being labelled everything from the next Maradona (Rooney) to the new Xavi (Wilshere). Where is Wilshere right now? Even Rooney had to quit and go into management because his career was on a downward spiral. Allegri should keep reminding him that’s he’s not yet the finished article and needs to still improve to get to the levels everyone is claiming he has already reached.
